It was a calm night. 3 of us were fishing from a big boat close to a bridge. All our senses were sharpened, we were feeling lures perfectly, we were feeling every contact with the bottom. Yes, that’s night zander fishing. You feel it with the whole your body.

After another cast the whole routine was broken … I was waiting too long for a lure to hit the water. Suddenly I realized what had happened and I started to retrieve quicker to get the lure from… the bridge. Unfortunately it snagged and I didn’t want to pull hard to avoid transformation of the lure into a bullet but … yes maybe I should. Because when I heard the noise of an incoming train it was too late. My reel started to scream. The noise was shocking but very short. The line broke very quickly. Nobody was hurt, the rod hadn’t been broken , only my knees were still shaking…
